One of the greatest singlehanders of all time was Philippe Poupon whose long term sponsor Fleury Michon funded the construction of more than a dozen radical multihulls and monohulls over the course of a decade. Poupon is also a three time winner of the Solitaire du Figaro race.



After having the 1984 OSTAR taken away from him, Philippe Poupon had a 75ft trimaran purpose-built to a design by Nigel Irens for the 1986 Route du Rhum. He took line honours in style.
