Captured on camera: solo ocean racing pt2

In part two of Christian Fevrier's gallery, in association with the Blue Green photo agency, we look at the 1980s and 90s

Sunday February 10th 2002, Author: James Boyd, Location: United Kingdom
The BOC Challenge, the singlehanded around the world race with stops (now known as Around Alone) was first held in 1982, after the concept was drummed up over many beers in Newport, RI, by a group of OSTAR sailors.
With the new race came a new star. Frenchman Philippe Jeantot, a former deep sea diver, turned up to the first race in a radical 56ft monohull Credit Agricole, and proceeded to win each of the four legs. He then less successfully campaigned an 80ft catamaran Credit Agricole II, before having another Open 60 built - Credit Agricole III, in which he won the second BOC Challenge four years later.
