Ellen MacArthur may be the most successful female ocean racing sailor today, but she is not the first. Glamourous French woman Florence Arthaud was a regular competitor on the short handed racing circuit during the 1980s. With a new sponsor, the building company Groupe Pierre 1er, she had a new trimaran built for the 1990 Route du Rhum.
