Blakey photo tribute

In September 1999, I discovered with Sir Peter and the movie team the last existing giant Kauris trees that which can be seen in New Zealand's North Island. These magnificent trees, with their enormous trunk girth (sometimes reaching 20 meters) once upon a time covered the North Island. Free from branches to 30m high, the Kauri were perfect for logging, but have been plundered since 1790 by timber millers.
Most of the old San Francisco, Sydney and Auckland houses are built from these tree, but today the king of trees is protected.
