Christian Fevrier, photographer and friend of the late Sir Peter Blake, delivers his tribute to the great seaman

Over the last decade Christian Fevrier (right) has photographed most of the exploits of the late Sir Peter Blake, be it the Jules Verne Trophy record on board ENZA New Zealand, prising the America's Cup off American hands or hanging on to it again four years later. He also accompanied Blake on his voyage to the Caspian Sea with the Cousteau Foundation.

He has been a close friend of the family and this selection of photos captures not only many of the top moments in Blakey's life over the last decade but also many of the intimate moments, showing Blakey's enormous affection for his family and latterly his work as an environmentalist.

After 17 years of involvement with the event, Peter Blake finally won the Whitbread Round the World race in 1989-90, his fifth attempt. He sailed the 25.6m ketch Steinlager 2 , winning all of the five legs. Into Auckland he was neck and neck with arch-rival Grant Dalton on Fisher & Paykel, but navigator Mike Quilter, saw a squall that Dalton missed, catching Dalton's white ketch with her kite still up.
