Black magic
In their preparation for the next America's Cup, the Kiwis trained hard for many long hours often out under sunset, as they are here, seen in the golden light of December 1994 after a long day of speed testing.
Amazingly, they learn nothing from their opponents in the America's Cup. According to Russell Coutts in 1995 they gained time over their
opponents in 77% of the 260 legs they raced and they were in the lead for 93% of those 260 legs.

To win the America's Cup is like to wish to catch the moon... The crew in charge of the hook is aloft up the NZL32 mast, just when the yacht is passing in front of the rising moon over San Diego Bay.
I took this picture from the upper deck of Bill Koch mother's ship.

Bringing the black boat luck... a San Diegan pelican races Black Magic as she approaches the upwind mark. When racing against Young America , Black Magic led at the 30 marks, and gained time on 25 of the 30 legs.
