Armel le Cleac'h and his BritAir have definitely been the class act of this year's Solitaire du Figaro. The winner of legs 1 and 2 and the overall leader by 1 hour 18 minutes, is now ahead on this final leg to Cherbourg.

The first Figaros rounded the Fastnet Rock in the early hours with Figaro veteran Gildas Morvan on Cercle Verte rounding in the first at 01:01:33 followed by Corentin Douguet on E.Leclerc Mobile, Kito de Pavant on Groupe Bel and Le Cléac'h in fourth. 5. The top 10 boats rounded within five minutes of each other. At the first sched this morning Le Cleac'h had pulled into the lead ahead of Douguet with Eric Peron in third.

With the wind in the northwest and the boats heading for Bishops Rock and then across to the French coast, they are having a fast ride, the 32 footers making 11-12 knots. One skipper reported the wind to be 24-25 knots, the aim being to preserve the gear for the downwind section expected towards the finish when they will need their big spinnaker.
