A game of snakes and ladders has taken place over La Solitaire du Figaro's first night at sea which has seem the 45 boats leave the Baie du Seine, round the top of the Cherbourg peninsula, the leaders now passing through the mandatory passage through the Channel Islands. With the top 10 all within a mile no real leader has established themselves. Last night the boats tacked right into the coast in order to get out of the tide and at this point Karine Fauconnier was ahead but only through her being the most northerly boat and closest to the rhumb line to the top of the Cherbourg peninsula. This morning she has dropped down to 39th, while Eric Peron, 22nd at the 1830 sched last night is nominally this morning's leader.

At present the boats are on starboard with the 10-15 knot wind out of the northwest. The boats are skating around on the tide. Laurent Pellucier reported doing 13 knots over the ground with 7 knots boat speed. The boats should remain on a starboard tack fetch today ducking in and out of the coast according to the state of the tide.
