Vendee Globe skipper Steve White will be returning with his Open 60
Toe in the Water to his home port of Weymouth on Thursday, 9 April.
White set off from Weymouth last October onboard his Open 60, then named Spirit of Weymouth to fulfill his dream and race around the world in the ‘Everest of sailing’, the Vendee Globe. Out of 30 competitors and 11 finishers, White crossed the line to finish in a remarkable eighth position.
Accompanying White on his final leg home will be sailing legend Sir Robin Knox Johnston, the pioneer of solo sailing: “I feel a tremendous empathy with Steve. He had no financial support to speak of, but his determination to succeed, backed by his supportive family, meant he had a greater motivation than most - and he succeeded, to join a very special club of 173 solo circumnavigators,” said Knox-Johnston.
Steve White and Toe in the Water can be seen in Weymouth at Town Quay at 2-4pm.
