A fast boat from China

Following on from yesterday’s
announcement that Eamon Conneely’s new TP52
Patches had arrived in Valencia DailySail reader John Brim of New York sent us details of his new yacht
Rima2 which bears a strikingly similar heritage to the Irish yacht.
John says that Rima2 is a close cousin of the Australian yacht Yendys for owner Geoff Ross. Designed by Reichel Pugh the 55 foot IRC design has been optimised for the lighter winds on the US East Coast.
Rima2 was built in the McConaghy facility in Don Guan, China, alongside Patches. The boat has a truly international heritage in that she was built in China to a design by a Californian office with a keel cast in two foundries in Mexico and machined in Wisconsin, with winches built by Harken in Italy, and with spars built by King Harken in Argentina, whose carbon C6 standing rigging is made by Southern in Rhode Island.
Rima2 will be based in Newport RI and the first two events hopes John will be Block Island Race Week starting 18 June and the Marblehead to Halifax ocean race on the 8 July.
The yacht was loaded onto a container ship in Hong Kong yesterday for the long voyage to New York.
