In Pointe a Pitre this morning at 05:34 GMT Brian Thompson on Artemis was the sixth arrival in the Open 60. Thompson took 13 days 17 hours 32 minutes and 20 seconds to complete the course from St Malo at an average (VMG) speed of 10.75 knots. This puts him outside of the time Ellen MacArthur took in the storm lashed race four years ago. Thompson arrived 1 days 5 hours and 34 minutes after class leader Roland Jourdain on Sill et Veolia. The race marks Brian Thompson's first singlehanded event in an Open 60 and he will no doubt be taking many valuable lessons from the event.

Meanwhile the Class 40s continue to close on the finish line. At 11:40 this morning race leader Phil Sharp (on needasponsor) had 635.5 miles to go to the finish line and with a margin of 362.7 miles over third placed Dominique Vittet on ATAO Audio Systems, this looks set to be a two boat race between Sharp and second placed Gildas Morvan on Oyster Funds all the way to the line now .

Over the last 24 hours a secondary depression has formed off the bottom of a giant depression to the north of Newfoundland. The second depression formed over the course of yesterday to the north of the Class 40 frontnrunners. This morning finds Phil Sharp in 10-15 knot northwesterlies, with Morvan still 144 miles to the east the wind still slightly backed for him. The further the boats both progress down the course, so the wind is expected to remain light and continue to clock around to the northeast and then east.

Unfortunately overnight the boats to the north were fully nailed by the secondary depression including Olivier Rabine on IXSEA and Ian Munslow on Bollands Mill. The depression moved right over the top of these two boats and as a result both have lost in the order 70 miles on the race leader.
