The second leg of the NORD/LB Baltic Sprint Cup from Helsinki to Tallinn saw
the fight continue. Emil Reiseschwein won the leg and now leads overall
after two legs, while the 45 mile long leg to Tallinn saw third place taken by the
local Estonian crew on Ladybird.
A day that began slow and foggy in Helsinki, Finland ended with a tight finish. The
fleet of 43 yachts sailed in very good conditions and the crews where pleased the wind filled in at noon after a postponement of the start, due to fog.
After around five hours sailing upwind culminating in a run into Tallinn it was the X-442 Emil Reiseschwein skippered by Stefan Hummelt, who took line honours. Volker Andreae's Inschallah VI was second, the local crew on Ladybird close behind in third. Just three seconds separated these three on corrected time.
“It is a very good feeling to come to our home country and we are happy about a very good leg and result today”, said Erki Melts, skipper of the Akton 395 Ladybird. The Estonian crew had already had good practise for this leg when they won the annual Helsinki-Tallinn race last year.
A very warm welcome greeted the crews when they came into the harbour of Tallinn, and after the race they talked over beer and sausages about the day’s race.
