The Notice of Race for the Hong Kong to Vietnam Race 2004 has been issued and is available from the
official website.
The Hong Kong to Vietnam race forms part of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club’s China Coast Race Week. The Race Week, which is held in the best of Hong Kong’s sailing conditions with winds consistently in the 15-20 knots range under blue skies and on warm friendly waters, comprises the China Coast Regatta 2004, sailed over three days in Hong Kong waters followed - this year - by the Hong Kong to Vietnam Race, a 656 mile ‘downhill’ race to Nha Trang, on the southeast coast of Vietnam.
Vietnam is a great jumping-off point for boats intending to continue to other seasonal sailing events in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Australia. Boats are welcome to enter the full China Coast Race Week 2004 or to enter either of its constituent parts to suit their own time schedule.
Only once in recent history has Vietnam been the destination for an offshore yacht race, organised by the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club in 1996 and taking leading yacht Ffree Fire just over three days to complete.
The race will set off on Tuesday 26 October 2004 in Hong Kong, finishing in Nha Trang, a popular tourist destination within Vietnam. A rally will be organised from Nha Trang to Danang to allow crews maximum exposure to the cruising waters of Vietnam, usually off-limits to recreational sailors.
The RHKYC is expected that this unique event is expected to attract a large international entry from countries such as Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore Hong Kong and Europe.
