Groovederci into the lead
Light airs off Newport meant plenty of heat and ultra-tight racing on day 2 of the 2013 Farr 30 World Championship, but the hottest boat on the course was undoubtedly Groovederci, driven by back-to-back reigning World Champ Deneen Demourkas. Demourkas scored two wins and a third place over three shifty races today, with winds from 7-12 knots and light chop from the southwest.
Demourkas’ consistent performance vaulted her three positions up in the standings, passing Annapolis performers Seabiscuit and Ramrod, while edging out Newport’s James Richardson and his Barking Mad team.
Demourkas says her lead means nothing at this point. “We’ve got a lot of racing left out there, and as today proved in this Class, your day can be really good or really bad based on just one leg of one race."
After two days of light air, crews are ready for a more spirited forecast in the offing. “Newport’s known for temperatures in the 70s and a cool breeze, so we were surprised to have two days of racing that’s just like home,” said Annapolis Farr 30 Fleet Captain Brad Kauffman. “We’re definitely looking forward to the 15-20 knots some forecasts are showing for tomorrow.”
