Onorato closes

At Marina di Loano, Lanfranco Cirillo's Fantastica continues to lead the first 2012 Audi Melges 32 Sailing Series event overall, but tarnished her perfect score line in today's two additional races, allowing Vincenzo Onorato's Mascalzone Latino with tactician Nathan Wilmot and Mauro Mocchegiani's Rush Diletta with Matteo Ivaldi on tactics, to close the points gap substantially. Onorato now trails Cirillo by one point seated in second, while Mocchegiani is five points behind in third.

It has been a very long Saturday for the seventeen competing Melges 32s. The first race of the day was scheduled for noon, but the fleet waited for the wind until 1400. when the Race Committee, chaired by Fabio Barrasso, decided to return to the docks.

The AP flag ashore was in effect until 16.30. With a light westerly breeze at about 8-11 knots, the fleet set out again for two races, which delivered many surprises.

The real pleasure of the day was seeing two of the newest teams in the Class win a race each. The fourth race of the Series was dominated by Quetefeek helmed by Japan's Diasuke Kimura with Kan Yamada as tactician. Their streak of victory didn't stop there. In race five, Kimura delivered yet another powerful performance grabbing a second place finish behind Andrea Pozzi's Bombarda with tactician Flavio Favini tapping every shift of the breeze for maximum speed and the win.

The final day, of the first leg, of the Audi Sailing Series organised by BPSE - B-Plan Sports & Events, in collaboration with Melges Europe, Club Nautico Loano and Yacht Club Marina di Loano will begin tomorrow at 8.30 a.m. in hopes of taking advantage of every breeze opportunity possible.
