Chris Smith, thedailysail's James Boyd and LSC Commodore David Roache. Note to self: must get longer tie thedailysail's editor cuts the ribbon
Not a club that appears on these pages very much being predominantly for cruising folk, however last night thedailysail's Editor and Publisher James Boyd was invited to 'cut the ribbon' on the Little Ship Club's new website. Masterminded by Chris Smith, this new site (www.littleshipclub.co.uk) happens to run on the same platform and was developed by some of the same people who painstakingly pieced together the latest incarnation of thedailysail.com
As part of the proceedings James Boyd delivered a presentation to members at the LSC's impressive Thames-side club house on 'sailing and the internet', following more than a decade working on sailing websites, the majority of them spent on thedailysail. Entertaining moments included establishing how many of the audience - generally aged 50+ - tweeted, as tweeting, we reckon, is a sound device for cruising sailors wishing to communicate, particularly for a club attempting to entice a younger membership into its ranks.
Having not visited the LSC's club house for many years, we believe the LSC's club house located in the City by Southwark Bridge, is under-utilised as a central London hospitality venue. In this role it is a facility to rival the RORC in St James' or the Royal Thames YC on Knightsbridge. Aside from the London Corinthian YC at Hammersmith, is the only central London-based yacht club that fronts directly on to the Thames.
