65 boats compete at Etruria Cup Melges 24

Club Nautico Scarlino hosts international fleet

The Etruria Cup Melges 24 for the Volvo circuit wrapped up on Sunday at La Marina di Scarlino in Maremma Tuscany under sunny skies with a breeze from the south at 7-11 knots.

An extremely high profile and technical race which saw the helmsmen at the forefront of tactical decisions. 65 boats from 10 different nations and over 300 sailors faced off in the turquoise waters of the Tuscan sea in the competition which lasted three days.

After five races and at the end of the event Flavio Favini, ex-helmsan of the America’s Cup syndicate Mascalzone Latino, won the Regatta with Blu Moon. Sandro Montefusco on Sherekhan followed in second place and Gabriele Benussi on Alfa Spider in third.

Among the non-Italian crews Swiss Jean-Marc Monnard ranked 7th on Poi Zon Rouge, Norwegian Oyvind Peder Jahre 8th on Terra Eiendomsmeglii, British helm Jamie Lea 12th on Team Barbarians and the French team 15th on Euro-voiles.



Consorzio Etruria, one of Italy’s leading building cooperatives, announced it’s partnership and support of the Club Nautico Scarlino for the 2008 season during the Etruria Cup Melges 24.

The next international event planned by the Club Nautico Scarlino is the 2nd Memorial Giorgio Falck Swan 45 that will take place during Easter from the X to the X of April.

The true feather in the cap is however the European Finn Championship. It will take place from the 2nd to the 10th of May with at least 100 athletes from over 30 nations facing off in the Gulf of Follonica. All this just a few weeks before the Olympic Games start in Beijing. (www.eurofinn2008.it)
