The countdown has now started to the 2008 IRC Scottish Championship, which is sponsored by Old Pulteney Single Malt Scotch Whisky and is set to take place on 7 and 8 June, with competitors sailing from Kip Marina, Renfrewshire.

Having helped the organisers of the Regatta, The Mudhook Yacht Club, to launch the Old Pulteney IRC Scottish Championship just three years ago, the event has already become established as one of the lynchpins of the Scottish sailing calendars. By working closely together, Old Pulteney and the Mudhook Yacht Club have ensured that the event has already gathered momentum.

This year’s Championship, which will again take place in the superb sailing environment of the southern shore of the River Clyde, will offer three sailing categories as well as a separate Sportsboats event, all of which are suited to sailing enthusiasts and professionals alike. The 2007 championship enjoyed a significant rise in entrants from 2006, and a very healthy number of entries is expected this year.

Old Pulteney supports a ‘raft’ of maritime and sailing activity in the UK, including a series of high-profile races. Due to the single malt’s maritime heritage (its distillery is the most northerly on the UK mainland, situated in the Highland coastal town of Wick),

Iain Baxter, Senior Brand Manager for Old Pulteney Single Malt Whisky, commented:
“We are very pleased to again be working with the Mudhook Yacht Club to host this year’s IRC Scottish Championships. It has been both exciting and rewarding to the see the race develop since we launched it back in 2006 and I am completely confident that 2008 will be our most successful year yet.

Peter Fairley, Admiral of the Mudhook Yacht Club, commented: “It’s great news for the sailing community that Old Pulteney is once again supporting the IRC Scottish Championships. This race is already a popular fixture within the Scottish sailing calendar thanks to the excellent sailing it entails and with Old Pulteney’s continued support, we are certain of another fine event.”
