The New York Yacht Club’s 151st Annual Regatta, presented by Rolex, will be held June 10-12 for yachts with a 25ft minimum LWL. Handicap racing will be conducted under IRC, PHRF, NYYC-CR and classic; there will also be one-design racing for selected classes.
Following last year’s successful format - where 125 yachts competed in the NYYC’s 150th Annual Regatta - the 2005 regatta will again be a three-day event. One-design Swan 45s and Farr 40s will race a three-day series including around-the-buoys races each day and the Around Conanicut Island Race on Friday afternoon. For them, all races will count in the series. All other yachts are eligible to compete in two separate events: the Around Conanicut Island Race on Friday and a two-day series over the weekend.
At present, 98 yachts have entered. This includes Courageous, Intrepid and Columbia, which have won five America’s Cups among them, as well as such other America’s Cup 12 Meters as Nefertiti, American Eagle, Kiwi Magic and USA. Other notable entries include Barking Mad, Jim Richardson’s Farr 40 World Champion; the Farr 60s Numbers, sailed by Dan Meyer, Hissar, Edgar Cato, and Rima, John Brim; and the TP 52s Lightwave, David Ford, and Bright Star, Richard Breeden. Classic entries include Ticonderoga, L. Scott Franz, Amorita, Jed Pearsall, and Fortune, Don Glassie.
The Annual Regatta dinner is set for Saturday night at the NYYC’s Harbour Court in Newport.
