Extremely strong northwesterly winds defined what was to have been the first day’s match racing in the second edition of the Jeep Challenge in Porto Cervo. The event is organised in Italy by Jeep, a brand of the DaimlerChrysler group, in collaboration with the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda.

The four participating teams: Alinghi skippered by Jochen Schuemann, Mascalzone Latino-Capitalia Team with helmsman Flavio Favini and tactician Vasco Vascotto, United Internet Team Germany (Jesper Bank) and Luna Rossa Challenge (Francesco Bruni), awaited the final decision of the Race Committe until 1300, at which point the regatta was postponed until tomorrow due to the formidable conditions.

The teams will be ready tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. ready to make up the first round robins which would have been raced today, and which foresaw the following matches:

1) Mascalzone Latino – Capitalia Team vs United Internet T. Germany
2) Alinghi vs Luna Rossa Challenge
3) United Internet T. Germany vs Alinghi
4) Luna Rossa Challenge vs Mascalzone Latino – Capitalia Team
5) United Internet T. Germany vs Luna Rossa Challenge
6) Alinghi vs Mascalzone Latino – Capitalia Team
