Sarah Sullivan, a 42-year old solicitor from Burnham on Crouch, was the lucky winner of
Jubilee, a brand new Borresen Dragon, at the class’s 75th Anniversary Ball in London at the weekend.
Sarah, a member of the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club and a regular on the Dragon circuit was thrilled: “This is my first new boat ever, it is like a dream come true,” she commented.
Sarah started sailing Dragons in 1991 having been introduced to them by her yacht-rigger husband, Ian Simons. She had previously sailed ¼-tonners and had enjoyed the complexity of the rigs and this was what attracted her to Dragons. “It is like having your own personalised 12-metre,” she added.
Sarah is planning a full season’s racing this year starting with the Eastern Championship and then the South Western Championship and Edinburgh Cup in Torquay, followed by the Gold Cup in Falmouth, the St Tropez Anniversary Regatta and the Northern and Scottish Championship.
Jubilee was built by Borresen and came complete with Holt Allen spars and fittings and a Harbeck Trailer. The competition was open to all owners of Dragons that sailed at club, regional and national events in the UK and Ireland throughout 2003.
