The Royal Southampton Yacht Club’s Summer Sunday series race two was held on
Sunday 23 May and saw a light breeze which rarely climb above 5 knots.

The Race Management Team set the Committee Boat, near Hovercraft 2 buoy. While waiting for the breeze to fill in the race committee checked all boats for safety equipment, the highlight of which was the Mexican wave display of lifejackets by the all-girl crew of Jaguar Clipper.

During the race the wind swung through 180 degrees. Class 3, saw Charles Ivill’s J/120 Charley J run aground a couple of times.

The two Sigma 38s Beefeater and El Greco enjoyed a close battle but The Girls for Sail team sailing the Reflex 38 Jaquar Clipper took line honours and victory on corrected time by 23 seconds from the Mark Neville’s HOD 35 White Knight of Wessex. In third place was First 211 Loki (Simon Potter/Marion Meunier).

In the Multihull Class, Simon Forbes’ Dragonfly 800 Scooby III took line honours but victory on corrected time by 12 seconds went to Grant Kelly’s Farrier F27 Beatus.

The RSYC Cherbourg Double starts on Friday 28th May. RSYC Twilight Series continues on Thursday 20 May and Summer Sunday Series continues 23 May.
