Mumbo Jumbo

Dominates Royal Thames YC Mumm 30 racing reports Nick Gibbons

Monday July 21st 2003, Author: Nick Gibbons, Location: United Kingdom
Over the weekend the Royal Thames Yacht Club Mumm 30 racing was greeted by bright sunshine and a light breeze.

The racing was a windward leeward short course of two laps and a downwind finish to make for a fast turnaround. The race officer got the boats off with excellent organisation and allowed the fleet to complete four races before 3pm both days.

The first race was won convincingly by Mumbo Jumbo who set an early fast pace rounding the top mark second just behind Monkey Business. By the end they had managed to gain a lead of almost half a leg.

The next three races were all a close affair between Mumbo Jumbo and Highlander at the front.

Sunday started much like Saturday with Mumbo Jumbo winning by a large margin in the first race but with the fleet much closer together close and interesting mark roundings. The next three races had more boats gaining speed with Moonshine gaining a win in race three of the day.

In the end the consistent sailing by Mumbo Jumbo gave them the win for the weekend, but with the fleet improving over the weekend an exciting Cowes Week is in store.
