General Situation

High pressure (1038mb) over eastern Europe will dominate the east, while low pressure centres developing mid-Atlantic and off the coast of Portugal will bring a change to western Europe.

The south of the UK will see a change in the weather as a weak low pressure centre pushes up through the English Channel bringing a welcome respite from the high pressure and cold winds of last weekend.

Saturday will be provided with a southeasterly wind direction of 10-14knots which will freshen through the morning to between 15-18knots and back to a more easterly direction of 100deg as a low pressure centre pushes up from the southwest. Ahead of this will be a short warm front which will bring low cloud and damp conditions and a decrease in the wind strength by mid-afternoon (3pm). By midnight the low centre will be just off Brest and the dominant feature for the south coast of the UK.

Sunday will be the subject of the cyclonic conditions of the low pressure centre that pushes northwest across the country, with generally wet conditions from the frontal system. With winds easing slightly from yesterday to just over 15 knots, the direction in the wind will be dependant on the location of the low pressure centre.

By midday the occluded front at the centre of the low pressure will be pushing towards the Solent with wet and gusty conditions. The wind will be veering towards a southwesterly direction by the end of the day with wind speeds of around 15 knots easing through Sunday night to produce foggy conditions on Monday. The key to Sunday will be the location of the low centre which can produce a variable wind direction and wind speed.
