Kersauson explained "it is necessary to have a name of spirit, because this boat this is a history of liberty, of fight, of independence and of the history of nature - and Geronimo was the one of the better symbols of all that and was known throughout the entire world".

Kersauson had wanted Marie to be the godmother of the new trimaran because her father, Eric Tabarly, represented part of his emotional and maritime world and she symbolized youth and belonged to the world of today and tomorrow.
