The World Speed Sailing Records council has today announced the ratification of the Antigua to Newport world record set by Maiden II earlier this month. An elapsed time of 3 days 22 hours 31 minutes 58 seconds was set between 10 May and 14 May 2002 giving a 16.5 knot average for the 1560 mile trip.

Further south, the New Zealand sloop Hydroflow, better know in Australia as Bartercard crossed the finish line in the 2002 Aircalin Auckland to Noumea race. Her race time of 111:59:17 smashed the previous race record set by Antaeus last year which was a little over 123 hours
