Thursday June 22nd 2006, Author: Suzy Hamel, Location: United Kingdom
On the opening Sunday of Hamble Week, July 2nd, local pubs The Bugle, King & Queen, The Victory and Ye Olde Whyte Harte will compete for the annual Bugle / John Merricks Sailing Trust Charity Cricket Challenge Cup at the playing fields by the Roy Underdown Pavilion, Spitfire Way.

Sponsored by The Bugle, Cricket Telecom, Indigo Press and Linden Homes, the event opens with the first match at 11.00am with the final scheduled for late afternoon. Players of all ages and abilities will be aiming to score as many runs as possible to raise money for the John Merricks Sailing Trust, a registered charity that awards much needed funding to young sailors and youth sailing organisations all over the UK.

A scrumptious barbeque lunch will be sizzling all afternoon and a bar will be operating throughout with plenty of thirst quenching Pimm’s being kindly donated by the pubs and their suppliers.

You are invited to come along and support your local pub teams as well as take part in the grand raffle with some top prizes for the lucky winners.

The Bugle, an historic village pub in Hamble, have established this popular charity fundraising cricket match as an annual event to help raise money for the John Merricks Sailing Trust.

The John Merricks Sailing Trust was set up nine years ago following the sudden death of the 1996 sailing Olympic Silver Medallist, John Merricks. It seeks to help young people who have the same drive, determination and commitment to sailing as John did, but who need financial support to help them to achieve their goals. http://www.jmst.org.uk
