New appointment

Former North director moves to Elvstrom Sobstad

Elvström Sobstad Sailmakers A/S, headquartered in Aabenraa, Denmark, have announced the appointment of Andrew Smith as Group Project Manager. Smith will oversee the design and development of all Elvström Sobstad products including the development of the group's patented Genesis® Technology and products.

Smith brings with him to Elvström Sobstad over twenty years experience in the sail-making industry including previous roles as Chief Designer for Diamond Sails and Design and Technical Director for North Sails UK. Born in Glasgow, Smith has, over the years, been heavily involved with the production and design of sails for numerous racing yachts including Whitbread Round the World yachts EF Language and Silk Cut, Mumm 36 World Champions, and a range of British Admirals Cup teams. In addition, he has developed the engineering of sails for many Superyachts, and various production requirements.

In addition the company has also announced a new Italian dealership. Elvström Sobstad Italia will be represented by Milan based company Sailmakers Srl, formerly the Italian dealership for Hood Sailmakers. Under the new license agreement, Elvström Sobstad Italia will provide exclusive production and service facilities to customers in Italy and Slovenia from its 2,500sqm loft in Zibido San Giacomo.
