Uni-directional carbon fibres are laid up by hand on top of a mandril Below: Pre-preg uni-directional carbon comes in a roll. When it is cooked at 120degC the epoxy resin liquifies and bonds the laminate together

Once the carbon fibres are wrapped round the mandril they are covered in plastic to protect them while a special machine (which we weren't allowed to photograph) compresses the dry laminate squeezing out any air.
