Alex Bennett - a madforsailing profile
Friday June 15th 2001, Author: Sian Cowen, Location: United Kingdom
Alex Bennett first came to our attention when he bought the Phil Morrison designed Open 30
Modi Khola and raced it in the two-handed Round Britain and Ireland Race. He has since progressed to sailing in the 1999 Mini Transat in which he came a commendable fifth in a highly competitive fleet. On his return Bennett was signed up by Pete Goss' ill-fated
Team Philips campaign for The Race. With the demise of
Team Philips and the Goss empire, Bennett has now set out on his long term ambition - to win the Vendee Globe. He has purchased Goss' Open 50 (ex-
Aqua Quorum) from the liquidators and will be using this as a training boat as he hunts for sponsorship to build a new Open 60 for the Vendee Globe in 2004.
