Local sailor claims UAE Moth Nationals
Local sailor and organiser of next week's Puma Moth World Championship in Dubai, Chris Graham, has won the UAE Nationals.
Proceedings got underway yesterday after a windy start to the day. With the boats sailing in 18-20 knots, competitors were pushed to the limits with many wipe-outs. Two races were sailed with 15 of the 44 boats entered for the Worlds taking part in the first and dropping to nine in the second.
At the end of day one, reigning European champion, Switzerland’s Arnaud Psarfaghis was leading having scored two bullets, followed by Chris Graham who had posting a second and a fourth and Australian Rob Gough with two thirds.
In contrast the start of racing on day two was delayed due to the winds being too light, with proceedings getting underway only at 13:40 in 6 knots. This was marginal foiling conditions for most and in addition, a black flag start saw five disqualifications.
After Psarofaghis' dominance on the opening day Graham posted a consistent 3-2-2 to win from the Swiss sailor by four points.
