Allegro Trophy

The mild spring weather encouraged a turnout of 17 boats for the Allegro Trophy at Queen Mary sailing club over the weekend of 5-6 April. Six races were scheduled and thanks to some excellent race management and some relatively steady breeze direction all six races were held over the two days.
Saturday provided a 5-15 knot northerly breeze in sunny conditions and proved to be a two boat battle for supremacy between the teams of Paul Vine / Dave Dubrovnic and Andy Partington / Ben Vernieres. Partington/Vernieres came out on top with two wins in some shifty and gusty conditions. Matt and Geoff Larkin lead the rest of the fleet home with some consistent results.
Sunday dawned a lot colder and with a slightly stronger and steadier breeze. The first race went to Vine/Dubrovnic after a tight battle, the second race went to Partington/Vernieres leaving the overall result hanging on the final race. This proved a tight battle with various teams battling for the lead, Vine came out on top again to win the meeting by one point, Charlie Duchesne/ Neil Tricker came in second with Partington in third.
Overall, a great early season opener and a chance to dust off the winter cobwebs.
