The Little America's Cup has its origins in the 1950s following a disagreement between Britain and the United States as to which country had the fastest racing yacht in the world.

To settle the argument, in 1961 the Sea Cliff YC of New York donated a Trophy called the International Catamaran Challenge Trophy which over the years has become known as The Little America's Cup. The event is an international club-to-club challenge, one of the only two in the world.

The Trophy is a silver sculpture in the shape of billowing sails above a square wooden-base with names of the winners engraved on it.
