An interesting view of the
Cogito wing twisted. The wingmast works like an albatross wing. The camber and the twist can be modified at the same time, in a gentle manner. The main consequence is that the airflow stays attached to the wing for longer. And you can sail much deeper downwind !
As clearly explained Zach Leonard, the Tornado Class Vice President in Sailing World magazine (January 1996): "The beauty of the new Cogito wing is that the angle of attack can be trimmed properly all the way up the wing without reducing camber. A new system in the wing (overall wing twist) can turn the the leading edge of the top portion aft, allowing the bottom of the N° 1 element to be pointed further forward than the top, so that the leading edge of the foil attacks the apparent wind at the proper angle all the way up the rig. The wing is essentially trimmed in down low and eased out up high."
