Tony Hannan victorious in Australian 18ft skiff series reports Sam Crichton

Tony Hannan and crew Cameron MacDonald and Greg Windust have sailed a near perfect season to finish up with the Australian 18 Footer Championship and the Club Championship adding to the NSW State Championship they won earlier in the season.

With two crews going into the final race on equal first points it was a do or die race. The fleet sailed in a Southerly breeze of 15 knots with Total Recall taking the lead early and holding it from John Winning on Yandoo until the last top mark rounding when Yandoo picked the right side of the course and sailed over the top of Total Recall.

Yandoo took the gun 1 minute in front of Total Recall and John Harris and crew Craig Ferris and Chris Cleary on Rag and Famish took third place from Michael Coxon and crew Aaron Links and Phil Hebden on Casio Seapathfinder by 3 seconds.

By coming fourth Casio Seapathfinder finished second in the Australian Championships with Rag and Famish third.

This race was the final race for the 2002-03 season for the Australian 18 Footer League and the upcoming season will kick off again in October.
