Who will represent RYA Volvo Team GBR in the Hobie 16 at this summer’s ISAF Youth Worlds should be known next week as the British crews go head-to-head for selection at the Eurocat event this weekend in Carnac, France.

With eight of the 10 sailors who will fly the British flag at the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championships in Buzios, Brazil in July selected at the recent RYA Volvo Youth National Championships it is now the turn of the catamaran sailors to impress the selectors.

Weymouth’s Sam Rowles, 18, is paired with 2008 SL16 RYA Youth National champion crew 15-year-old Gilly Sutcliffe, from Kintbury, for the three-day Eurocat event in France while Christchurch’s Adam Butler, 17, who won 2008 Youth Nationals gold with Sutcliffe, joins forces with Nikki Boniface, from Polegate.

It is the intention of the selectors to select the team that finishes the highest-placed in Carnac to complete the RYA Volvo Team GBR contingent for Brazil provided three specified criteria have been met and the sailors commit fully to the agreed pre-training and competition programme.
