Another title for Styles
Monday August 24th 2009, Author: Hugh Styles, Location: United Kingdom
Sunday and the final day's racing dawned with around 9 knots of breeze.
Race 7 started in 'shifty' conditions with Hugh Styles in front at the first mark, increasing his lead on each leg and achieving a commanding win by the finish, with Jon Worthington sailing into a fine second and David White third.
The eighth race saw another tricky first beat with the fleet splitting. Of the leading boats Hugh Styles, Grant Piggott and his son Adam Piggott all took to the right side at the bottom of the beat with Stuart Gummer and Jon Worthington both going to the left. Styles managed to work a successful route down the right side to take the lead. He maintained the position around the rest of the course winning the race, with Stuart Gummer second and in third David White. This confirmed Hugh Styles and Ferdinand Van West on their Nacra Infusion as the 2009 UK F18 National Champions with a race to spare.
Race 9 was a lighter wind affair and without Styles, who used the last race as discard, it was John Payne who showed the fleet home with Grant Piggott chasing hard in second and in third Toby Orpin.
So congratulations to Hugh Styles and Ferdinand Van West on a Nacra Infusion in Gold (adding to their Gold at 2009 Eurocat Regatta in France, Silver at the 2009 Texel Dutch Open and Bronze at the 2009 F18 Worlds), Grant Piggott and Andrew Sinclair on a Nacra Infusion in Silver with Stuart Gummer and Ellen Forshaw on a Shockwave in Bronze.
