Largs not turning on the required weather

Wednesday August 4th 2004, Author: Amy Bradley-Watson, Location: United Kingdom
Racing was abandoned at the Volvo Musto Optimist National Championship due to lack of wind and extremely low visibility.

The juniors have already completed three races, which constitutes a series, while the seniors so far have only completed two races.

In the senior fleet, as predicted the sailors who have recently returned from the Optimist World Championship that were held in Ecuador are dominating at the front of the fleet.

Sophie Weguelin, 15 from Lymington who was 97th at the Worlds, is leading the championship with three points. In second place with seven points is Gijs Pelt, 15 who has come over from the Netherlands for the Championship. In third and fourth place with eight and ten points respectively are twin brothers Ben and Tim Saxton, 14 from Grafham Water. The top Scottish sailor at present is Andrew Normand, 15 from Royal Northern and Clyde Yacht Club who is in 15th place with 36 points.

In the junior fleet Mark Lees, 12 from Poole YC, is leading the championship with 15 points. Adrian Clay, 12 from Wraysbury Lake is in second place with 18 points. First Scot is Anna Burnet, 12 from Royal Northern & Clyde who is in 8th place with 59 points.

Four races are scheduled for Wednesday for both the senior and junior fleets.
