Another feather in the cap for Lloyd Thornburg's MOD70

Lloyd Thornburg and his crew aboard the MOD70 Phaedo3 have demolished the record for sailing around the Caribbean island of St Maarten.

Back in March 2003, Steve Fossett set the previous record of 2 hours 4 minutes and 36 seconds. While training for Les Voiles de St Barth, Thornburg and his crew decided to see if they could break this record. With some help from Alfred Koolen and Stuart Knaggs of the St Martin Yacht Club who set up an official start line and handled the timing, Thornburg and his crew of Brian Thompson, Miles Seddon, Warren Fitzgerald, Sam Bason, Sam Goodchild, Fraser Brown and Paul Allen established a new time of 1 hour, 30 minutes and 19 seconds.
