The sixth entry in this autumn's Volvo Ocean Race has been confirmed. This will be fielded by Team Campos, the Spanish sailing team managed by Galician sailor Pedro Campos. Olympic champions Iker Martínez and Xabi Fernández will be key members of the campaign.

Pedro Campos, Team CEO, is proud to announce the return of Spain in the race: “We’re happy to see Spain’s presence once again in sailing’s leading offshore race: the Volvo Ocean Race. For our team it is an honour to have a fifth boat participating in succession, a record in the history of the event.

“We know that it will be a very difficult edition, with all the boats identical, but as always we’ll try to raise the Spanish flag at its highest as much as possible. On behalf of the entire team I’d like to thank all the people, institutions and sponsors involved in helping us get on the start line this October.”

The Spanish team’s boat, the new Volvo Ocean 65, has been assembled in Green Marine in the UK, under the one-design concept managed by the event organisers for all the competing one-design boats in this edition. Soon the mast, boom and rigging will be installed and the boat will undergo its first sea trials.

The Spanish team in the 2014-15 Volvo Ocean Race will be made up of a group of specialists that will develop the different aspects of the campaign such as the sailing crew, the shore team, meteorology, logistics and communications in the most efficient way.

The teams sponsors are expected to be announced in the next months and the team will be supported by the National Sports Council and the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation.
