Contingency plan

Europa Race will take place, but starting from Barcelona

Wednesday March 28th 2012, Author: James Boyd, Location: none selected

Following the announcement that the Europa Race for the IMOCA 60s is to be canned, so the class has moved to plan B which will see the race take place but with the opening leg removed.

As a result the Europa Race will now set sail from Barcelona where the Europa Race will be hosted over the weekend of 17-20 May. The race will then continue as planned stoping at Cascais, before finishing in La Rochelle.

Having a major competition this year prior to the Vendee Globe is obviously a priority for the IMOCA class. IMOCA, along with Race Director Jacques Caraës, is looking at taking over the infrastructure of the event with the majority of the logistical work already carried out.

Barcelona to La Rochelle is in no way a "major" competition. what a pity for the sponsors who are getting no exposure since the end of the B to B.....
