Tenders requested for 2013 and 15 Mini Transat

Contract with La Rochelle ends after this year's event

2011 will be a busy year for the Mini class. In addition to preparing the 18th La Charente-Maritime Bahia Transat 6.50 (Mini Transat) organised by Grand Pavois Organisation, starting from La Rochelle on 25 September and should be played to packed houses, Classe Mini has also set in motion the bidding process for cities and ports to host the Mini Transats in 2013 and 2015.

For those unfamiliar with the Mini Transat, it has been held every two years since 1977 when the first race was held between Penzance and Antigua. Very much like harking back to ocean races of 30 or 40 years ago, the Mini sailors on their extreme 21ft long craft are now allowed GPS but carry no two-way comms other than VHF which with its 20 or so mile range is of little use mid-ocean.

Applications to tender are available from the Mini Class here.

Deadline for submissions: July 29, 2011

The announcement of the organiser of the Mini-Transat in 2013 and 2015 will be made at Paris Boat Show later this year.
