Barcelona World Race pre-start dismasting

Central Lechera Asturiana drops rig off Portugal

Central Lechera Asturiana was dismasted very early this morning while on delivery passage to Barcelona for the start of the Barcelona World Race.

The IMOCA 60 of Spanish duo Juan Merediz and Fran Palacio dismasted in the early hours of this morning off the Portuguese coast while they were on delivery from Sanxenxo to the start of the doublehanded round the world race .

The crew are uninjured and in good health and are making towards Cascais, by Lisbon as are the team’s shore crew by road from Galicia. Once there they will further evaluate the situation and assess their options.

Despite this setback the entire team are still set in their drive to be at the start of the Barcelona World Race on 31 December. The competing teams and the Barcelona World Race organisation have already pledged to do all they can to try to ensure that Central Lechera Asturiana will be there.
