Minis in 2010
With 320 members and 250 boats that raced in 2009, the Mini class starts the 2010 season a new administrative committee and a full race schedule.
In 2009, there were 15 races and 10.000 miles of racing. The Mini remains the world’s most international and largest participation offshore class with the greatest number of races. International participation is particularly impressive - of the 320 members in 2009, 25% were from abroad, or 27% in the class’ premier event – the Charente Maritime Bahia Transat 6.50 (Mini Transat).
Going forward the Mini class committee has as its main objective controlling costs, particularly in the ‘Proto’ class. Since 2009 a study has been underway to establish how best to achieve this, as over recent seasons the number of Protos relative to Series entries in races has been dropping.
For 2010 the season comprises 15 races or 7,610 miles in total – 12 are in France and three in Italy. The season will culminate in the Les Sables-Azores-Les Sables race at the start of August
