Cayard joins Maximus

Star line-up for Kiwi maxi in Rolex Middle Sea Race

Paul Cayard announced his joining the crew of of New Zealand maxi yacht Maximus for the Rolex Middle Sea Race next month..

Cayard comes fresh from the Swan Worlds in Porto Cervo Sardinia and will be joining joint owners Charles St Clare Brown and Bill Buckley and a Maximus crew line up including former Volvo Ocean Race skipper Matt Humphries and an impressive list of Italian sailors including Stefano Rizzi, Lorenzo Bodini, Gaetano Granara, Andrea Scarpa, Stefano Raspadori and Francesco Mongelli. The President of Gruppo Intermatica, Claudio Castellani, will also be on board as they battle it out against old maxi rivals Alfa Romeo and Morning Glory on the challenging 608nm long course around Sicily.

The 26th Rolex Middle Sea Race will start on 21 October 2006 from Valetta Harbour, Malta. For the race Maximus will be sponsored by Thuraya-Gruppo Intermatica, the leading Italian satellite technology company, which will ensure that the 30m Super Maxi has their wide band voice and data communications on board to enable them to consult weather forecasts in real time, allowing for safe, informed sailing. Sietel, La Veneta Servizi, Telesia, Class Editoria are also taking part in the project alongside Lipani & Partners oversee legal aspects and SLAM continuing to be the official clothing supplier. With fantastic crew and sponsors in place, Thuraya Maximus just needs the winds to be with her for a competitive race!
