Conditions abate for VDH
Monday December 30th 2002, Author: Jean-Luc van den Heede, Location: Transoceanic
Hello,
The sea has finally calmed down. I have even been able to have the full mainsail hoisted for twelve hours or so. I shall go down to 55° south and take the next little depression on the quarter if all goes to plan.
I have had a good rest in this calmer weather because I had lacked a bit during the last series of strong winds. It seems that now I have 4 or 5 tranquil days ahead of me. I shall make use of them to get rid of the damp which has got into Adrien and clear up a bit.
I shall also spend some time on the wind generators. The coupling on one of them exploded when a piece of cordage caught in the propeller. The other had its supply wire cut.
This is my last message for 2002! Because tomorrow, when I write to you, with my 12 hours difference, I shall have just begun 2003.
Until tomorrow JL VDH
