Francis Joyon is now finally out of the high pressure system that has been dogging his progress for the last few days. In a period just over 24 hours up until 0945 today he had covered a much more 90ft trimaran-like 345 miles.
Currently lying some 375 miles due south of the Azores Joyon is sailing in 20-25 knot WSWerly winds. For some reason Joyon's course is still further north than it need be for at present he could easily lay the mark - on a course of 024deg.
This morning he has 1,537 miles left to sail to reach Brest. With a strong following breeze Joyon should be able to crank out the miles, however come Sunday the wind may prove to be just that little to lively - Joyon can expect as much as 50 knots from the SSW - but at least it will be from a favourable angle.
Assuming Joyon is able to cover 400 miles a day, then we anticipate he will cross the finish line on Tuesday morning next week which equate to a time non-stop around the world of 73 days.
