Another in the net for Holmberg

Racing off Sibenik in the Alpe Adria Sailing Tour

Wednesday May 14th 2003, Author: James Boyd, Location: Mediterranean
BMW Tomic, driven by the American Peter Holmberg, won today's racing off Sibenik. With a 7.4 mile course Holmberg finished in only 53m 40s. This race was third victory for the helmsman Holmberg, who sailed with Oracle/BMW at the last America's Cup.

This short leg was full of suspense and went to the wire for the leaders, with BMW Tonic passing Alcatel right at the finish to win by just 1m 25s.

Third place went to the Croatian Scor Team finishing 2m 47s later. Steered by Darko Hajdinjak, they preceeded Barcolana by only 6 seconds.

Finally on this short leg the sailors got to sail in ideal, constant conditions,
with wind of up to 18 knots, providing a treat for those watching from land.

There was a great start for the students on Region Friuli Venezia Giulia, who arrived
fifth at the first mark, but who unfortunately encoutered problems and slowly lost their position to finish twelfth, just after the girls on Val Nautika, who also had no luck in this
regatta.

In the overall results, City of Split is still leading the fleet followed by BMW Tomic now closing in on the overall leader.

Tomorrow will see the start of the eighth leg of the Alpe Adria Sailing Tour, from Sibenik to Split of about 38 miles. The tour will end in Dubrovnik on 22 May with a prize giving at the Revelìn Castle.
