Day 19
Position at 2317: 46°39S 31°25E
24 hour mileage: 543
Average speed: 22.64 knots
Olivier de Kersauson and the crew of Geronimo are showing their competitive streak for their first day past the Cape of Good Hope has seen them continue to blaze through the Southern Ocean, covering 543 miles in the last 24 hours.
Their lead over Steve Fossett's Cheyenne at the end of day 19 is still a slender 63 miles, as the American maxi-cat was also making good progress at this stage, however Geronimo is now some 690 miles ahead of Orange's record. As the chart above shows, they are still behind on their progress during their 2003 attempt on the Jules Verne Trophy.
Geronimo's track at present is to the north of Cheyenne's but she still appears to be heading in a roughly ESE direction that looks like it will take her south of Prince Edward Island. Currently Geronimo is enjoying 30+ knot winds to the northeast of a depression centred due south of them at around 57degS.
