Options for VDH

Now back in Hobart Jean-Luc van den Heede describes his options

Thursday February 6th 2003, Author: Andy Nicholson, Location: Transoceanic
The solution suggested last week, of starting again from Hobart to possibly have another attempt at the record, has been completely abandoned. If I attempt to break the record again, I shall take the same course at the same time of year.

How to get Adrien back to Europe has still not been finalised. The company that offered me a space at an affordable price on a merchant ship carrying onions finally has no space available in February. All the other proposals are too expensive and exceed (with the transport cradle) 100,000 euros.

So, along with my search for a merchant vessel, which I am not giving up, I am now finding out about a temporary aluminium mast which would allow me to bring Adrien back by sea independently. In this case I would go via the south of Africa.

All this is quite complicated and luckily I have logistics help from Don and Margie McIntyre!

P.S. I am receiving mail and advice from everywhere... I am a bit overwhelmed and can't reply to everybody!
